the golden tarot

i used to have a tarot deck, but i would get spooked out about getting bad cards, and i wasn't crazy about the artwork. so i got rid of it some years ago. but recently i felt like doing some tarot readings. i found this deck online, the golden tarot, and ordered it. it's made of parts of medieval/renaissance paintings put together on the computer. i put some cards above (pardon the reflections/poor contrast).

i've done one reading so far, and it was about as grim as i expected. but i figured i can view it as a warning, or a challenge - like, can you avert this fate? or else, as some kind of consolation. to put an underlying story to life, to give it some meaning.

i also wrote last night for the first time in some weeks. i told myself, i am going to turn into dust unless i do something creative - my life will have been meaningless. i hope i will be able to keep it up. i'm looking forward to writing again tonight, which is a good sign anyway.

  1. this is a lovely set. your thoughts on how to interpret your reading is a great idea. I don't understand very much on how to do a reading with them. but i wonder if it sort of picks up on the energy you have at the time. Can you ask the same question twice? say, on another day.. I've been so immersed in astrology as predicitive work, but i'd love to become involved in tarot as well. as another side of the fortune coin.

    1. hmm yeah, maybe so. i've never tried doing one twice. but yes, i think you would really like it. it's rather jungian, like doing dream interpretation.

  2. I'm really glad you are writing!

And I HAVE asked the same thing more than once--a lot when I was younger and didn't like the first reading....let me tell you, it didn't change the result at all. Kept telling me the same general thing over and over! Which is weird. I also wondered the same thing as underthegreatblack...that the cards pick up on the energy we already have. I think they are somehow connected to our intuition--pick up on it or brings it into clearer focus.

    1. i did a reading a couple of nights ago and the last card just didn't make sense in the context, so i drew another and it fit much better. i don't mind doing that. not to draw cards until i 'like' them but until they make more sense to me.

i like to think of them as a way of connecting with the unconscious.

  3. Interesting. I wonder if after some time passes, that the card will eventually make sense, you know?
